All in a days play!

Well what a day. Anyone with a special needs child will tell you that some days it really does not pay to get up. However we made it through Speech, OT, errands, preschool, dinner and then to Rollerskating at the Elementry School Skate Night only to spend the evening in the ER. Yep! Harrison broke his elbow rollerskating tonight. I am usually so over protective of him however I remember skating at the roller rink and never broke anything.....well I guess not everyone has the same experience. As will most children with autism Harrison has a huge pain tolerance and when he says something hurts we always sit up and listen. So I decided to head to the ER tonight and I am glad that we did. He has a ace bandge fiberglass splint (that is not going to last) which he promptly asked for it to come off. He does not like the sling either-we will see what that will bring tomorrow I am sure. Anyhow here are some great photos from skating tonight and my brave little guy with his new accessory.

Pumpkin Patch

On Friday we went to the pumpkin patch here.
Harrison loved it. Just some photos to share the day. I sure was tired. After having surgery almost 2 weeks ago I am just starting to feel great again. I still get tired but I love the new ta-tas! More about that later! I hope to be back to creating this week. I have some great Autism Awareness ideas, Christmas Cards, and Halloween Cards. Also my 8 page layouts for November, December and January. Let me know if you are interested in a class kit or attending the workshop (they are the last Wednesday of the month). Enjoy!

Jenny McCarthy on Autism

I was glad that I watched the Oprah show on Tuesday of this week in which Jenny McCarthy and Holly Robinson Peete spoke about being parents of children suffering with Autism. I was moved to tears when Jenny described being told her son Evan had autism. I remember that day like it was yesterday. The things that struck me the most was when Jenny described how she was trying everything to make her son well or responsive. I loved that she did not say that the wheat and dairy free diet was the "cure" but that it was a tool that works for her child but like chemotherapy it may not work for everyone.

I really dont want to be part of this exclusive club of mothers who can relate to a brand new word, or the joy of finally hearing the words "Mommy" or "I love you" from your child who wont even look at you. It is wonderful that Jenny is speaking out and providing a ray of "hope" to those of us looking for some answers, and a real understanding of our hopes and fears, as she understands them and lives them just like I do daily.

I thought that I would share that Jenny is speaking on a variety of shows in the next week. Hopefully you can catch one of the shows and maybe you too could understand just what it is like to live life daily with autism as a permenant member your family.

Jenny is appearing:
September 18th, 2007: Oprah Show
September 21st, 2007: 20/20
September 24th, 2007: Good Morning America
September 25th, 2007: The View
September 26th, 2007: Larry King Live

Also there is a very true and real article (Fighting for My Autistic Son by Jenny McCarthy) in the current People Magazine on news stands today September 21st, 2007. If you have any questions feel free to ask! I am sure that I dont have any answers but I am empathize with you and maybe together we can find some answers to why our children, why autism, and how can we meet it head on and see progress!
